Admission Requirements

Applying to the IGC

There are only three steps towards enrollment at the IGC:

1. Get in contact with your program coordinator and clarify all your questions

2. Collect your documents (and if necessary have them translated)

3. Apply Online

General admission requirements

Required documents

For admission we require the following qualifications and documentations, which you can send during or after your application:

  • proof of previous university degree(s) and transcripts (1)
  • a copy of your passport or birth certificate (1)
  • curriculum vitae (1)
  • proof of English language proficiency (i.e. TOEFL, IELTS) (not for Cultural Management) (2)
  • a letter of recommendation by a university lecturer or employer (not for the part-time programs) (2)
  • an essay outlining your interests in the program (not for the Flex part-time programs) (2)
  • passport photograph (2)
  • proof of practical knowledge or work experience (1)
  • original APS-Certificate (for Chinese and Vietnamese applicants only) (1)

(2) documents must be provided during the enrollment process at the latest

Original degrees or certified copies of original documents are required. If you submit regular copies along with your application, you will have to present the original documents for enrollment. Documents other than in English or German have to be translated into English or German by a recognized translator for the application.

Online Application

Applications should be submitted via our online-application page. If you have any questions about the application process, you are not able to apply online or if technical problems occur, please contact our application team.

Submitting documents

If some of your documents should not be available at the time of application, you may hand them in later. Please make sure to submit these missing documents on enrolment at the latest. Please note that applications without supporting documents can not be processed. You may also upload missing documents over the web-form if you have already applied.

Waiting List

The International Graduate Center may accept applications past the regular application deadline. If this applies, your application would be placed on a waiting list.
Within a period of three to four weeks after receipt of your application, you will then be informed by e-mail about your admission or refusal. Please note that applications can only be evaluated if they are complete.

Visa

If you are applying from abroad and you have received an admission for one of our programs, please make sure to take care of the visa procedure right away. It may take weeks before you will get an appointment at the German embassy.

    Program specific requirements

    In addition to the general requirements, special pre-requisites based on program of choice are listed below:

    Full-time programs

    Master in European Studies

    • Bachelor degree in Political Science, Law, Management, Economics, Business Studies, Global Management (or related; other degrees will be considered depending on their content covering - at least partly- the above)
    • One year of post-graduate work experience. Proof of work experience/employer´s certificate required 
    • Essay demonstrating student‘s strong motivation for the program and career goals
    • Letter of recommendation from an employer / university teacher
    • For non-native speakers: proof of English proficiency with TOEFL (Test of English as a foreign Language) 80 IBT (“Internet-based”) or IELTS (International Language Testing System) 6,0 or CEF (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) B.2

    International MBA

    For the specialisations: Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Finance & Investments, Marketing, Management in Emerging Economies and Human Resource Management

    • Bachelor degree in business management* or its equivalent
    • Minimum of one year post-graduate work experience. Proof of work experience/employer´s certificate required 
    • Motivation letter
    • For non-native speakers: proof of English proficiency with TOEFL (Test of English as a foreign Language) 80 IBT (“Internet-based”) or IELTS (International Language Testing System) 6,5 or CEF (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) B.2

    * Please note that a business degree is required. If you have a technical background please apply for our MBA in European/Asian Management program. Exceptions might be made for applicants with long working experience in the management field.

    MBA in International Tourism Management

    • Bachelor degree, with a minimum of 10% business-related courses (official transcript of previous degree)
    • One year of post-graduate work experience. Proof of work experience/employer´s certificate required 
    • Essay demonstrating the applicant‘s strong motivation for the program and dedication to an international business career
    • For non-native speakers: proof of English proficiency with TOEFL (Test of English as a foreign Language) 80 IBT (“Internet-based”) or IELTS (International Language Testing System) 6,0 or CEF (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) B.2

    MBA in European/Asian Management

    • Bachelor degree, primarily non-economic/non-business-related (official transcript of previous degree)
    • One year of post-graduate work experience. Proof of work experience/employer´s certificate 
    • An essay demonstrating the applicant‘s strong motivation for the program and dedication to an international business career
    • For non-native speakers: proof of English proficiency with TOEFL (Test of English as a foreign Language) 80 IBT (“Internet-based”) or IELTS (International Language Testing System) 6,5 or CEF (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) B.2

    MBA in Global Management

    • Bachelor degree, with a minimum of 10% business-related courses (official transcript of previous degree)
    • One year of post-graduate work experience. Proof of work experience/employer´s certificate required 
    • Essay demonstrating the applicant‘s strong motivation for the program and dedication to an international business career
    • For non-native speakers: proof of English proficiency with TOEFL (Test of English as a foreign Language) 78 IBT (“Internet-based”) or IELTS (International Language Testing System) 6,0 or CEF (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) B.2

    Master in Aeronautical Management

    • Successful completion of the “International Degree Course in Aviation System Engineering and Management (ILST) B.Eng.” at the Bremen University of Applied Sciences or
    • A comparable academic engineering degree + relevant practical experience as a pilot, in aircraft maintenance or in the aviation industry with a minimum of 1 year
    • For non-native speakers: proof of English proficiency with TOEFL (Test of English as a foreign Language) 80 IBT (“Internet-based”) or IELTS (International Language Testing System) 6,0 or CEF (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) B.2

    Part-time programs

    Master in Business Management

    • Bachelor's degree in an economic field
    • One or more years of work experience (phases of practical trainig might be recognized)
    • Very good German language skills, good English language skills
    • Interest in management and consulting tasks

    FlexMaster Business Management

    • Bachelor's degree in an economic field
    • One or more years of work experience (phases of practical trainig might be recognized)
    • Very good German language skills, good English language skills
    • Interest in management and consulting tasks

    Master in Cultural Management

    • Academic degree with at least 210 ECTS (for applicants with less ECTS we offer upgrade options)
    • Minimum of one-year work experience (phases of practical trainig might be recognized)
    • Very good German language skills (level C1)
    • Interest in management and leadership roles

    FlexMaster Cultural Management

    • Academic degree with at least 210 ECTS (for applicants with less ECTS we offer upgrade options)
    • Minimum of one-year work experience (phases of practical trainig might be recognized)
    • Very good German language skills (level C1)
    • Interest in management and leadership roles

    MBA Business Administration

    • Academic degree (non-economic degree)
    • Minimum of 2 years of postgraduate work experience (phases of practical trainig might be recognized)
    • Good English and very good German language skills

    FlexMBA

    • Academic degree (non-economic degree)
    • Minimum of 2 years of postgraduate work experience (phases of practical trainig might be recognized)
    • Good English and very good German language skills
