The focus of the Master’s Degree in European Studies at the International Graduate Center of the Bremen University of Applied Sciences is politics, economics/business, law and administration of Europe. You will gain a deeper understanding of the key challenges that the European Union, its member states as well as its international partners and business actors inside and outside the EU have to face. Our program offers you a comprehensive and up-to-date study of the economic, legal and political developments in the public sector and in private business, thus qualifying you to work in the EU institutions, the diplomatic service, the public sector of the member states or partner states of the EU or in private business or think tanks, interest groups or in lobbying.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 240 ECTS or equivalent (admission with fewer credits possible on condition of extra semester and/or internship)
  • In Public Policy, Business, Political Sciences, Law, International Relations or related fields
  • English proficiency (IELTS 6,0)
  • Usually one year of work experience

Upon completion of this postgraduate management degree, you will earn your Master’s in Arts. You will have high order skills in analysis and critical evaluation. The IGC encourages students to solve complex problems and think independently. You need to hold an undergraduate degree in order to receive admission.

As the language of education is English, very good English knowledge is required. Please be advised that while it is possible to complete your degree without any German language knowledge, most local jobs will require German skills. For this reason, if you plan to work in Germany following your studies, we recommend that you take advantage of our free German courses.

The program begins in the winter semester. The introductory events and courses start at the beginning of October and run until mid-February, so make sure to plan accordingly. The summer semester begins after a short break in March. Starting in May, you can use the lecture-free period to work on your master’s thesis.

Accreditation of our degree programs is very important to us. For this reason, we regularly have our programs reviewed for quality by independent external agencies. The MBA in European/Asian Management is accredited by the agency AQAS (Agentur für Qualitätssicherung durch Akkreditierung von Studiengängen e.V.). Since 2002, this agency has accredited most of the study programs at public universities in Germany.

The tuition fee is 9,800 euros for the entire course, plus an additional semester fee of roughly 380 euros per semester (as of 01/2020). The semester fee covers your student ticket that entitles you to free public transportation in Bremen, as well as to Lower Saxony and Hamburg. Program description - Master in European Studies

Intensive preparation for your career in or connected with the EU

The Master's Program European Studies at the International Graduate Center is a practice-oriented postgraduate course. You will take modules in public and private management, law, economics, management and politics – always with a view to the European Union. After the introductory weeks at the IGC we offer the Intensive Seminar in Brussels where you will obtain an inside glance of the EU institutions and of interacting public and private enterprises and organizations. This study visit is organized collectively with our partner institutions from Riga and Western Switzerland in the 3D Network.
To help you prepare for your career in a EU institution, diplomatic career, a career in government or administration in one of the member states, partner states or in undertakings in the EU or dealing with partners in the EU, or an academic career, you will study core modules on the EU institutions, EU Business law, Economic integration, EU funding, Public and Private Management, and the EU as a Global Player, as well as have the opportunity to participate in a development program or take a unit in intercultural management, group processes or personal skills training. The career opportunities of graduates of the Master’s Degree in European Studies range from positions at EU institutions, executive positions in the private and public sectors to lobby activities and political posts.

Our International Student Assistance (ISA) assists you in different aspects of settling in: finding accommodation, handling visa applications, clarifing insurance queries and dealing with authorities both at home and abroad. This service is of course free of charge. Furthermore ISA regularly organizes excursions and events during your study in Bremen.
