Study Experience: Double Degree in Bremen and Valencia
Originally from Romania, Alexandru now works as a business strategist in fintech, payments, risk management, and compliance. He shares his reflections on his time as a student and how those experiences continue to benefit him today.
How do you look back on your time as a student?
With quite a bit of nostalgia, to be honest. It was a great period for me and an opportunity to take a short pause from my usual professional routine, challenge myself academically, and learn things that have since proven genuinely valuable in my day-to-day work.
What did you particularly enjoy about your studies?
First of all, I really liked the concept of the program itself. Having the opportunity to choose between different modules and universities is a major advantage and makes the experience unique. I also really enjoyed my time in Bremen and have many great memories from my time there. Academically, I genuinely enjoyed the classes and the variety of subjects covered. I particularly remember the Finance classes, as they challenged me the most, in a very positive way, and pushed me outside my comfort zone.
What about Valencia and the University of Valencia?
Valencia has been my home for almost five years now, so I may be slightly biased. For me, it offers an almost perfect combination: great weather, friendly people, culture, gastronomy, and all the advantages of a city while still being a very manageable size.
As for the University of Valencia, I was particularly impressed by the professionalism of the professors, their dedication, and their genuine involvement in making the entire experience both valuable and memorable.
How has your career benefited from your studies?
Most importantly, by being able to put many of the things I learned into practice. To give a concrete example, many of the Finance concepts and tools I learned during the program are now part of my regular work routine. The same applies to Marketing. Some of the concepts we discussed in class have since come up in real business decisions. For example, we are currently exploring the development of a premium product, and just a few weeks ago I found myself going back to the materials from one of our Marketing classes to revisit some of the concepts we had discussed.
For me, that is probably the best indication of the value of the program: even after graduating, I still find myself going back to what I learned and applying it to real situations in my professional life.
