A lot of questions may arise when preparing to study abroad. This list may answer some of your questions about the “Master in European Studies” program.

What is ISA?

ISA is the International Students Association hired by Hochschule Bremen and is responsible for taking full care of the international students enrolled in different Master programs.

How can I find an accommodation for myself in Bremen? Is it possible to book a room before I reach there so that it saves me the trouble of staying temporarily before I find a permanent place?

Students don’t have to worry about accommodation.
ISA is responsible for providing accommodation to the international students. International Students are requested to keep in touch with ISA.

Is it possible to reach the university by local transport? (Is the university area near to the city or far away from the main city)

Hochschule Bremen is situated very near to the city center and is reachable by local transport.

Do I need tickets for the utilization of the local transport system? If yes, from where can I get them? Is it costly?

A part of the tuition fee is for the semester ticket which enables the student to travel by local transport not only in Bremen but also to nearby cities like Hanover and Hamburg.

What documents are required for the visa application?


Students are requested to contact the German embassy in their respective countries. Students should be careful to apply well before time as the visa procedure can last for months.

What do I have to do to get my temporary study visa extended?


ISA will take care of extending student Visa for all the students. Students are requested to contact ISA regarding this matter once they are in Bremen.

How are the weather conditions in Bremen? How cold is it in winters and how warm is it in summers?

Bremen can have really cold winters as the temperature can go as low as -20 degree Celsius. In summers the temperature can go up to 35 degree Celsius. Yet the weather is very unpredictable due to the fact that Bremen is situated near the sea, it may rain a lot in Bremen.

Will I have to get an international health insurance from my home town for my entire stay in Germany or can I also get a local one?

While coming to Bremen one requires health insurance but after reaching Bremen students will be provided with a health insurance from a German company which would be more beneficial for the students. The amount for health insurance is not covered in the tuition fee so students will have to pay by themselves.

How far is German required for me to sustain in Germany? Will I get to learn some German during my course?


The course includes German classes for students in both the semesters as basic German is required to sustain in Germany.

Is the course plan five days a week or six days?


The course is normally planned for five days a week and students will receive a detailed time table for the whole semester upon their arrival.

What is the minimum amount of money a student requires for his stay in Germany per month?

The minimum amount required by a student to sustain comfortably in Bremen is Euros 700.

Can I get my course books from the library or do I need to buy them?

Most of the course material will be provided by the course administration to all the students in the form of hand outs, compiled study material etc. But if any lecturer advices to read a specific book or material not provided by the administration, library facility is always available for all the students.

How will the interactive environment in my class be like?

The environment in the class is going to be very interactive. There would be group discussions in every lecture and presentations for most of the assignments.

Are there any semester breaks, if yes then for how many days?

Students will get a break for 10 to 15 days at the time of X-mas and New Year. In addition, there is a semester break in early spring of approx. 3 weeks plus a two-week break around Easter. Moreover, there will be break of approx. 3 weeks after the students hand in their thesis in late August before the oral exams.

When are students supposed to write their thesis?

Students have to write their thesis just after the end of second/summer semester which ends (approximately) in the mid of June.

How much time will the students get to write their thesis and how much does the thesis count in the whole course?

Students will get a time period of 12 weeks to submit their thesis which counts one third of the whole course.
